Privacy policy

Last updated: March 2026

At NOMAS (nomas.nl), we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it – in plain language, without the legal fog. If you have questions, you can always reach us directly.

1. Who We Are

NOMAS is a travel blog run by Cees and his partner, documenting campervan adventures through Western Europe and beyond, with an archive of sailing stories. The website is operated privately and is not a commercial company.

This website is subject to Dutch privacy law and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG).

2. What Data We Collect and Why

2.1 Google Analytics (GA4)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site — which posts are popular, where readers come from, and how they navigate the blog. This helps us improve our content and user experience.

Google Analytics collects anonymised data including:

  • Pages visited and time spent on site
  • General geographic location (country/city level)
  • Device type and browser
  • Referring website or search query

We have configured GA4 with IP anonymisation enabled. No personally identifiable information is stored. Google may process this data on servers outside the EU; see Google’s Privacy Policy for details.

Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR)

2.2 Contact Form

When you send us a message via our contact form, we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this solely to respond to your enquiry and do not store it in any marketing database.

Legal basis: Legitimate interest / contract (Article 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR)

2.3 Newsletter (MailPoet)

If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address using MailPoet, a plugin hosted on our own server. We use this information exclusively to send you our travel updates and blog notifications.

You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every newsletter email. Your data will then be permanently deleted from our mailing list.

Legal basis: Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)

2.4 Comments

If you leave a comment on a blog post, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your comment. Your email address is never published. We use it only to notify you of replies, if you opt in to that feature.

Comments are stored in our WordPress database on servers managed by TransIP (Netherlands).

Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR)

2.5 Cookies

Our website uses cookies. Some are essential for the site to function; others are used for analytics or to support embedded content. You will be asked for consent before non-essential cookies are placed.

Types of cookies we use:

  • Essential cookies — required for core site functionality (WordPress, security)
  • Analytics cookies — Google Analytics GA4 (anonymised)
  • Affiliate/advertising cookies — see Section 4 below

3. Hosting and Data Storage

NOMAS is hosted on TransIP Managed WordPress (Netherlands). All data collected via our contact form, comments, and newsletter is stored on servers located within the European Union. TransIP complies with GDPR requirements.

4. Advertising and Affiliate Links

Our blog contains affiliate links and/or display advertising. When you click an affiliate link or interact with an ad, third-party companies may place cookies on your device to track conversions and personalise content.

We participate in affiliate programmes including (but not limited to):

  • Bol.com Affiliate Partner Programme
  • GetYourGuide Partner Programme
  • Daisy.com Affiliates
  • Tradracker.com Affiliates

These third parties have their own privacy policies, which govern the data they collect. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content or practices of third-party sites or services.

Clicking affiliate links does not cost you anything extra. We may earn a small commission, which helps keep the blog running.

Legal basis: Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) — via cookie consent

5. Your Rights Under GDPR
