Now that the move is behind us, it’s time to explore the area around Pego. First we take a walk through the Parc Natural de la Marjal. This protected nature reserve is a combination of water, reed fields and open landscapes. The park is known for its watery environment and biodiversity. It is especially popular with birdwatchers.
La Marjal has a network of canals, rivers and ponds fed by underground springs and rainwater. This creates an ecosystem in which numerous animals and plants can live. Water also plays a role in rice cultivation, a traditional activity in this region.
